Don the Dad

I wanted to do something special for Don for this Father's Day.  It's really hard to do anything when you spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week together.  I can't really go to the store to buy anything for him, he's always with me.  I made a photo collage of all of the kids and grandkids for him.  He loved it!  Since blogging is what I do when he's busy, I wanted to dedicate a special blog for him.

I've noticed many things about how he performs his fatherly duties.  Of course, I only have the past three years to recall memories from, but there have been plenty of times that I've noticed the little things.

He has always been willing, ready and worthy to give his children a Priesthood blessing.  If it was because they were sick, getting married, going off to school or on a mission, broke up with a sweetheart, or just because they asked.

He is very generous with everyone.  He is always trying to do the right thing and err on the side of good.  He is the most generous man I've ever met.  He is always thinking of others and what they might need or want.
He is a good listener.  Many times I've seen him listen to a child's problems and keep on listening, when most parents would try to impose their opinions on the child.  He try to follow the counsel of not giving advice unless you ask for it, regarding personal matters.

He has continuously tried to get the children and grandchildren together for Family Camp each year.  He looks forward to playing games and spending quality time with each child there.

He prays for his children and grandchildren every day.  This is something he has done since the day we met and we had our first couple prayer on our first date.  He is the pillar of spiritual strength and dedication to prayer power on behalf of all of his family, his parents and brother's families as well.

He is very patient with his children and grandchildren.  He always tells them that no matter what he will always love them.  During our recent trip to Utah he was caught exercising with all the children on the elliptical trainer with him.  He even helped Sammie build bookcases while Laci sat on his lap.
Great, awesome, marvelous, wonderful, caring, kind, generous, loving, spiritual, dedicated, and faithful are all words that describe Don in his role as a father.
