Tapioca Pearls

We visited Elder and Sister Armstrong (another Senior Missionary Couple) in New Orleans.  They are assigned as Family History Missionaries and work at the New Orleans Public Library every day. Their job is to humidify old documents and then put them in folders for the photographer.  The photos are then sent to Salt Lake to be assembled and placed in the archives.  They are working with documents from the Probate and Estate Courts dating in the early 1800s.

We took them to the Superior Grill (our favorite Mexican Restaurant) and had a great visit with Rocio.  She was very talkative and set up an appointment for later in the week to go out for lunch with us.  We picked her up and took her to her favorite Vietnamese restaurant and had a great visit with her.  We ordered some great food, but the most
interesting thing was their smoothies.  She suggested that we order them (the smoothies) with tapioca pearls in them. So we went for it and it was great fun.  The smoothies came with these 1/2 wide straws that have a sharp end on them.  The cup is sealed and you punch the straw thru the top.  This was my very first time having "tapioca pearls". We've had tapioca a lot, but these were different.  The largest tapioca I'd ever seen was smaller than a 1/4 of an inch.
These were 1/2 inch around, brown and fuzzy feeling in your mouth.  A note was on the cup to chew the tapioca before you swallowed.  So we did.  They tasted like tapioca, but had the consistency of soggy gummy bears. Ummm. Yummy.  No, really they were good.  After we left we thought this would be a great treat on a hot day.  (I got brain freeze a couple of times.)

So after we ate we went to visit Laurie (the lady with the broken ankle).  We got there and her sister was there with her niece.  Her husband invited us in and we had a great visit.  We brought her a game called, It Came to Pass.  Don taught them how to play and it was really fun to see her niece, Leah take over the game.  She learned the
rules fast.  She won the first hand, she got two charity right off the bat and then drew another one.  Needless to say, we continued to play and have this three year old beat us.  After the second game we left for another visit.

We visited with Luisa Mejia this week.  She is the Sister whose husband was murdered right before we arrived.  She has a baby that was born in September and is feeling a little lonely.  We talked with her about President Monson and we were thrilled to hear that she had been able to watch BYU-TV and see his press conference.  She lives with her
sister and her husband (non-member).  The sister is a return missionary and is looking for help with her husband.

Thursday we got a call and we have a family emergency and will be traveling to Utah this week to help Melody.  She is having complications with her pregnancy (preeclampsia). Don spoke with the Mission President and he feels that it would be best for us to be there, not here.  So we will travel to Ephraim and stay for a few days.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Today at Church it was so amazing to us to see how many of the people we know.  We have truly grown to love them.  We know most of them by name and they come up to us and ask us how we are doing
