Five Months on a Mission

Today marks five months since we entered the Missionary Training Center in Provo. Time sure does fly when you stay busy. We love practicing Spanish, the only problem is that the hispanics want to practice their English on us. We all have quite a lot of fun trying to speak each other's language. Don reminds me that we are so blessed to have the opportunity to learn another language. Who knows our next mission might be to the Long Beach Spanish Mission. Never the less, we are learning and that is always a good thing.

Tuesday, Mardi Gras Madness - it's true that New Orleans goes mad during Mardi Gras. We could feel the evil spirits all around. People get drunk, act crazy and seem to be mad the whole week. It was really weird to see Wal-Mart closed for Mardi Gras (it was open on Christmas.) We took lunch to all the missionaries that were on lock-down in the Stake Center.  The next day was transfers, so we said our goodbyes to half of them.

On Wednesday, we went to the Baton Rouge Temple with all of the departing missionaries. We had three of our Spanish Elders leave for home. For some of them it's the first time that they've been able to attend the temple since being on their mission. (If they are assigned to New Orleans, they are not allowed to travel that far to attend the temple. The travel time is too long.)

We were able to make some more home visits this week and work with Brother Zavala on his English. He's doing pretty well and has his formal test with the Immigration office this week on Valentine's Day.

We've been trying to find a way to help some of the couples that are having marriage problems here. We started listening to the Five Love Languages on CD in the car this week.  It's amazing to relearn what we have learned in the past.  I guess I must be getting old, my memory has been consistently failing me.  I'm so grateful for this opportunity to relearn what I've known and even taught to others in the past.  We hope that you will find the copy of the book on your shelf and reread it.  If you don't have it, then you may want to buy it or check out the online information at
http://www.fivelovelanguages.com

We were blessed to attend the Worldwide Leadership Broadcast with all of our missionaries.  We love the talks and felt that they are so important for each of our family members.  We love our family and want each one of you to be successful in "Building a Righteous Posterity".

It was wonderful to hear President Monson speak and give the following three guidelines:
1-      Establish a Pattern of Prayer.
2-      Build a Library of Learning with good books.
3-      Enjoy a Legacy of Love where parents show examples of love for their children.

We love each of you.  We hope that as this week of Valentine's begins, you will find ways to show your love for others.  Keep up the great work that you are doing.

We finally took the quiz at the end of the book and figured out what language we speak! Thanks again for the Ultimate Gift - this month we've enjoyed working on the Gift of Love for FHE each week! It was good for Mark and I to think about the "language" of our kids. Helps us to understand them a little better and maybe not become frustrated with them as easily.
Thanks again for everything!
