Mother's Day this year was very different for me, especially since we are here in New Orleans on our mission. All of our children are living somewhere else and of course that means all of our grandchildren are living somewhere else too. We were able to talk to most of the children and even got Skype to work so we could actually see and talk to Melody and her girls. It was fantastic.
That was my biggest Mother's Day present from Don. He figured it out and got it loaded up onto my computer. Now I can "see and talk" to our children and grandchildren and it's free.
Another big treat was talking to Brent and sharing missionary stories with him. We have pretty much the same type of mission as he does. Spanish proselyting. Only we are a Senior Couple, which allows us more flexibility with our schedule and activities. He's doing well and enjoying the work in North Carolina. His ward has a similar "melting pot" of people from the Hispanic countries - mainly South America.
We spent all day Saturday preparing roses for the Bishop to give out for Mother's Day. We had to go to a bunch of different places to buy all of the supplies and then WE worked for hours to put together beautiful cellophane wrapped roses for each sister. (I say WE because Don is great at this kind of stuff and I loved having his help, especially since I over-did it on the shopping part of the day.)
The sisters seemed to really enjoy being handed a rose personally by the Bishop, as they left Sacrament Meeting. I'd never seen it done that way before, but it was truly inspired. Each sister was given the rose and a personal greeting from the Bishop. That personal attention means so much when you are so far away from family. Bishop Garcia is a wonderful Bishop and the members of the ward love him and Sister Garcia so much.
