A couple of highlights of our week.
Friday we drove four missionaries up to Baton Rouge to the Mission Home for New Missionary Training. We used one of the back rooms to have our companion planning and make some last minute phone calls for the Ward Activity on Saturday. It was so nice to attend a couple of the sessions with the missionaries. Sister Woods gave an excellent lesson in the Sisters Session on becoming Fishers of Men. She gave each of the sisters a bracelet made from fishing swivels. It was a great opportunity for the sisters to speak openly with Sister Woods about how their first week in the Mission Field went.
Most of the week we spent getting ready for the Ward Activity on Saturday. We are the Activities Committee Co-Chairs. It was a Chili Cook-Off and Trunk or Treat. The activity went great. We had a lot of great feedback from the members and there was plenty of great food. A couple of unique things we did that went over really well and we will definitely do again are: The Kids Zone - we used the overflow area and set up a Kids Zone with 3 nursery tables and little chairs. We had crayons and coloring pages on one and Mega Blocks on the other two. We also set up a TV with the children's scripture story DVD in it. It was packed the entire night. Since our ward has so many young families we wanted a safe place for the kids to play. Another thing we did since we were serving Chili and Salad was to have Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches cut into fourths. This was for the kids that don't like chili (this is something our last Activities Chair did and we liked it). They were a hit. Many of parents came up and thanked us for thinking of the kids in our planning.
Sunday we had the great privilege of hearing President and Sister Woods speak in our Sacrament Meeting. We have been so blessed to be here with them. They have brought so much love and joy into our lives. Sister Woods has even created a Mission Website with all kinds of information and pictures on it. See it at http://web.me.com/rhwoods38/Site/Welcome.html
Weekly Challenge: We all are trying to be like Jesus and love as He loved. This week as we go about our daily tasks, look for others that need your love. It may be a co-worker that needs encouragement or a listening ear, or the young mother in the grocery store with her little children, the elderly neighbor trying to rake their leaves. The challenge is to do something nice for someone else every day. Reach out and share the love of the Savior with others.
We know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Church. We know that God lives and loves each one of us. We know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. We know that President Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God. We know that the Book of Mormon is true.
