On Monday, our Preparation Day, we went on an official "date". We took the Historic Buggy Ride in New Orleans. It wasn't very long, but was very interesting. We saw a lot of the old buildings and historical sites. We still love the architecture here in Louisiana and the grill work. Don took loads of pictures and afterward we walked along the Mississippi River. It was a great adventure and as always, we had a blast being together.
We made quite a few visits this week. We keep a stock of DVDs, Book of Mormons, Ensign and Liahona Magazines in our car at all times. Along with small cellophane bags of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. They always reach for the cookies first.
We had interviews with the new Mission President on Wednesday. President and Sister Woods are so awesome! President Woods spoke to the missionaries about the difference in baptizing versus converting someone. He said it's easy to get someone to get baptized, but it more important to have them be converted. Then he gave an example of how to help the investigator "feel" the spirit when you ask them if they want to be baptized. The feelings that both President and Sister Woods have brought to the mission are tremendous. They have so much love and concern for the missionaries and the members. Our meetings were going a little long and we asked if we could get some food, they wanted all the missionaries to eat. So they sent us to Taco Bell to buy lunch for the missionaries. The missionaries were totally shocked and thrilled that there was food. (I guess you had to be there to witness it.)
We went to Baton Rouge on Friday and met with the President and his wife for dinner. It was nice to be with them and have more time to visit and learn more about their vision for the mission. We shared ideas with them of what we had been doing, considering our limited language skills. We also found out that there is another Senior Couple coming to the mission next week. The Andersons and they speak Spanish. Yippeee!!! So we shall see what happens. They could either go to Baton Rouge or come down here to New Orleans. We could be transferred to the English ward that shares the building with our Spanish ward. Or be sent to Nova Scotia. Hah, I don't think so. Now we know what the Elders feel like waiting for transfers.
We both are so excited to be involved in missionary work here in New Orleans. We look forward to all the changes that will come during the next few weeks.
