The Spillway hasn't been used in 11 years and we figured that we were seeing history in the making. The Spillway is opened and the Mississippi River is allowed to run into Lake Ponchartrain to alleviate flooding in New Orleans.
A couple of weeks ago there was flooding up north on the Mississippi River and we watched and wondered if the flooding would affect us. Here is a picture of where the Spillway is first coming out of the Mississippi River into what used to be park.
This is the view where the spillway crosses the I-10 freeway into Lake Ponchartrain. The picture was taken from the I-10 facing toward the Mississippi River as we were heading into New Orleans from Baton Rouge. The spillway water is about 3 1/2 miles wide. Totally Amazing.
